Policies

  • The American Council for Accredited Certification:

    • does not allow certification board members to directly profit from their certification board activities.

    • does not allow trainers or course providers to serve on its certification boards.

    • does not have profit sharing or rebate agreements with any trainers or course providers.

    • does not allow certification board members to have possession of candidate files.

    • does not endorse or promote any products.

  • Trainers and providers who describe their courses as eligible for ACAC recertification credits or as prep courses for ACAC exams must publish the following disclaimer: "(Company name) is an independent course provider not affiliated with the American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC). ACAC does not develop, accredit or approve training courses, nor does it contract with course providers."

Trainers and providers who use a single course to prepare students for multiple certifications including ACAC certifications must publish the following disclaimer: "Certifications offered by (Company name) are not affiliated with the American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC). ACAC certification requires a separate application and examination process at www.acac.org."

  • It is the responsibility of the certificant to document credit hours for professional development for re-certification (RCs).

The ACAC reserves the right to refuse to grant registration of educational programs for RC status if the program duplicates the body of knowledge already evidenced by our certification programs. RCs may not be granted for programs sponsored by others who have certification programs, certification names or certification acronyms similar to those of the ACAC.

  • All applicable fees are due and payable prior to the release of examination results. Once earned, the application fees (usually $100 ~ $200) are not refundable. If an individual is not awarded a certification designation, the certification fees (usually $200 ~ $250) are refundable. The ACAC is liable only for fees charged directly by the American Council for Accredited Certification.

  • American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC) provides certification services at the request of the candidate or certificant. Before the purchase of ACAC services, clients are responsible for knowing this policy and being willing to abide by it.

-Certifications must be paid for in advance of awarding a certification.

-Certifications that are not granted due to ineligibility or examination failure or denied certification will be refunded by check, less the application and/or administration fees.

-Certification and re-certification fees are refundable by check upon request within 30 days. Application and/or administration fees are non-refundable.

-Certifications canceled before the entire certification period has lapsed will be refunded by check on a pro-rated basis, allowing for the uncompleted term of the certification, starting on the date of the request to cancel the certification.

  • Generally, the ACAC uses data collected to improve response to certificate holders' interest and needs.

With the exception of basic contact information, the ACAC holds all certificant file information confidential.

The ACAC does not disclose credit card account information provided by its certificants or customers. When certificants and customers choose to pay using credit cards, the ACAC submits the information needed to obtain payment only to the appropriate clearinghouse through secure channels.

  • The American Council for Accredited Certification provides equal access to its certification programs to all eligible candidates. ACAC considers and evaluates each application for certification on its merits, and without regard to the age, sex, race, religion, national origin, disability, marital status or of the applicant.

  • Use of the ACAC logo on letterheads, business cards and other forms of address is limited to Council-certified individuals and to organizations employing Council-certified individuals. Note that the use of the ACAC logo on large items must be submitted for approval. The ACAC logo may not be used to make a false or misleading claim of certification by or association with ACAC.

A Council-certified professional may use the designation title with his/her name on organization letterheads, business cards and all forms of address. When using an ACAC designation, we encourage the spelling out of the designation fully in smaller print immediately below the signature block, as in the following example:

    John Doe, CIEC
    Council-certified Indoor Environmental Consultant
Board-awarded by the American Council for Accredited Certification

Certification is for individuals only. ACAC designations may not be used to imply that an organization or firm is certified.

  • The American Council for Accredited Certification strongly discourages its certificants from performing both assessment and remediation services on the same project. ACAC certification boards may not accept applications that document such activities.
