Field experience not required. Candidates must attest to current employment in consulting on environmental infection control issues in hospitals, schools, clinics, urgent care centers, assisted living facilities and other environments where infection control is a concern.

Program Summary:

The Council-certified Environmental Infection Control Investigator (CEICI) and the Council-certified Environmental Infection Control Consultant (CEICC) help prevent infection control problems in the built environment.

A CEICI or CEICC provides investigative and assessment skills that identify infection control issues.  They also assist facilities in developing infection control risk assessments (ICRA) and project specifications.

A CEICI or CEICC has verified knowledge of disciplines related to environmental infection control. The certification exams cover the most respected texts in the field. Those who pass the exams must understand the scientific principles governing infection control. They must be familiar with current practices and standards affecting consultants and investigators. They must know how to produce a risk assessment (ICRA). They must be able to assemble a project management team. They must know how to conduct an investigation and report their findings.

Each CEICI or CEICC possesses verified experience in infection control consulting in one or more of the following settings:

  • Hospitals

  • Clinics and urgent care centers

  • Offices and commercial buildings

  • Industrial structures

  • Government facilities

  • Schools and public buildings

To earn the Council-certified Environmental Infection Control Investigator (CEICI) or Council-certified Environmental Infection Control Consultant (CEICC) designations, a candidate must:

  • Demonstrate verifiable field experience in infection control consulting

  • Pass a rigorous examination based on broad industry knowledge rather than a course curriculum

  • Earn the unanimous approval of the CEICI or CEICC certification board

  • Re-certify every two years

  • Participate in 20 hours of professional development activities each year

  • Maintain the highest ethical standards

Accreditation:

The CEICC and CEICI certifications are accredited by the Council for Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB), a nationally recognized independent accreditation body. ACAC certifications are the ONLY designations in the indoor air quality field to earn CESB accreditation.
