What is a CMCA?
A Council-certified Microbial Claims Adjuster (CMCA) is an insurance adjuster with special expertise in mold claims. A CMCA can accurately determine the cause and extent of microbial damage involved in an insurance claim and make sure that such claims are properly handled.
A CMCA has verified knowledge in a range of disciplines related to indoor air quality and the building sciences. The CMCA examination covers the most respected texts in the field. Those who pass the exam must understand the scientific principles governing moisture control and indoor air quality. They must be familiar with current practices and standards affecting insurance adjusters who work with microbial issues.
CMCAs must demonstrate at least two (2) years experience as insurance adjusters. They handle microbial claims in virtually any setting, including:
-
Residential buildings
-
Hospitals, clinics and urgent care centers
-
Offices and commercial buildings
-
Industrial structures
-
Government facilities
-
Schools and public buildings
To earn the Council-certified Microbial Claims Adjuster designation, a candidate must:
-
Demonstrate at least two (2) years of verifiable field experience as an insurance adjuster
-
Pass a rigorous examination based on broad industry knowledge rather than a course curriculum
-
Earn the unanimous approval of the CMCA certification board
-
Re-certify every two years
-
Participate in 20 hours of professional development activities each year
-
Maintain the highest ethical standards
The CMCA certification accredited by the Council for Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB), a nationally recognized independent accreditation body. ACAC certifications are the ONLY designations in the indoor air quality field to earn CESB accreditation.
